"My Dream, My Passion is that people everywhere living with Cerebral Palsy will be able to live a fulfilled life through community, friendship and family. I pray that one day all People who live with CP will be able to have Stem Cell Procedure completed so that they can live life more independently."
Hello, my name is Patrice Greenhill. I was born on August 24, 1969. I appeared to be the perfect baby. At least that’s what my family thought. Ironically, on that day, neither my parents nor doctors knew I would never walk.
As I began to grow, I was unable to sit up or crawl like other babies my age. My family became very worried that something had happened to me at birth.. After trips Crippled Children’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. My parents were devastated. Then came the news that I would probably not live to the age of 13. Realizing this meant I would require a lot of love and support, my mother and father.
Undergoing surgery after surgery, countless hours of physical therapy, occupational and speech therapy. The hospital tried everything to help me get better and some of my functions did improve but nothing they did cure my condition. I spent so much time at that hospital, there would be times I would think I was never go home again. Still I unable to walk or feed myself or do any of the daily things to make me more independent like other children my age.
When I was finally able to attend school. My mother had to drive me 50 minutes each way to and from, since the nearest school available for Cerebral Palsy students was 45 miles away from where we lived. At the age of 13, I had become accustomed to my school, I received upsetting news that my father’s job had to relocate away from my family. My mother and father had the hard job of explaining to me that we needed to move due to my expensive doctor bills from all my Cerebral Palsy treatment. By accepting the job in Macon,Georgia my father’s insurance could help cover some of my medical expenses.
I have never given up the hope that one day I might walk or at least be able to do daily things like feed and bathe myself, wash my own hair, swim in the pool, go out on a date or even live by myself. Well, my friends, these things have not happened yet, but I'm still praying that one day they will.
I have been seen on the news people on television with a similar diagnosis as me receiving stem cell procedures to help them get better. So the people who support me decided to start a fundraiser to benefit me in the stem cell procedure to help raise the money I need to make this happen for me. Monies I raise on GoFundMe will help with my procedure and hospital plus my travel to and from the facility where I will be having the procedure which is very expensive.
I am stepping it up to another level because I know everyone loves coffee. So I want to do something for you while you help me with my fundraiser for Stem Cell Therapy Procedures.
